Baby Blue Book Study
Information Statement
My name is Lauren Hamilton. I am conducting research to fulfil the requirements for a Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) (Honours) at Macquarie University.
The research aims to explore parental views and use of the NSW Child Personal Health Record, more commonly known as the ‘Blue Book’. Specifically, the study seeks to understand how the resource is valued and used by parents. As part of the research, I am considering how different parents use the Blue Book information. I am investigating whether some of these differences might relate to the extent to which parents have had previous experience with babies and young children, and their knowledge of child development.
If you have a child 0-4 years old, your participation in this study would be greatly appreciated so that a better understanding of how the Blue Book is utilised can be achieved. This will provide a basis for recommendations regarding the Blue Book as a resource for providing infant and child health information.
Your participation in this research would involve completing a questionnaire composed of a series of questions related to your:
- background,
- evaluation of the NSW Blue Book,
- previous experience with children and,
- general understanding of child development.
If you have more than one child, when completing the questions related to your evaluation of the Blue Book, please reflect upon your experience with your youngest child. The questionnaire will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. In addition to completing the questionnaire, if you are potentially interested in being interviewed, it would be very much appreciated if you could forward your contact details to the researcher.
All information obtained from the research will remain strictly confidential and only the researcher and supervisor will have access to this data. Completion and return of the survey implies your consent to participate in this study.
Should you choose to complete the questionnaire you may submit your name and contact details for the chance to receive one of three Kids Central gift vouchers valued at $25. Your details will remain entirely confidential and separate from your completed questionnaire. This draw aims to show appreciation for your participation in this study.
The results of this study will be presented as a thesis. A summary of the results will be available at the completion of the study through this website. Alternatively, if you wish to obtain a summary of the results via mail or email, please contact the researcher or supervisor of the study.
